Huangguoshu Waterfall is the largest waterfall in Asia and one of the grandest waterfalls in the world.
Huangguoshu Waterfall is located on the Baishui River in Anshun, Guizhou Province, which is 140 kilometers away from the downtown of Guiyang. It is famous at home and abroad for the magnificent main falls and the densely distributed waterfall cluster. Having an average altitude of around 2000m, the area around the waterfall is of typical karst topography and is blessed with soundly-protected natural scene, which made it known as the Huangguoshu Waterfall National Park.
Huangguoshu Falls is 74 meters (243 ft) high and 81 meters (266 ft) wide. The upstream Baishui River is flowing towards the bluff and falling into the Rhinoceros Pool at the foot. During the rainy season (May to October), the water rolls down to the Rhinoceros Pool like thousands of horses galloping and shakes the ground and the hill. The thunderous roars of the falls can be heard several kilometers away. The falls are at their most spectacular about four days after heavy rain in this season. The dry season starts from November till April. In the two months of March and April the flow of water can become a trickle.
Further adding to the allure of Huangguoshu Falls is the presence of other 18 cascades both above and below the main falls. Hangguoshu is also the only one provided with naturally perforated waterfall caves. There is a marvelous Water-Curtain Cave located in the back of the waterfall. It is 134 meters long down to the foot of the falls, allowing visitors to not only view, but also hear and touch the waterfall. Being in it, one can see the plunging water like numberless strings of pearls flying down over one's head and also the rainbows in the fine drizzle. It is really a spectacular view.
